The Future.....NOW!

Paging Nathan Phillips......Paging Nathan Phillips.... We have 4 more people in the emergency room because you funked them up again.... gawwwDAMN this cut is funky. Slap my bace right off my man. Pleasure is one of the few jazz funk bands who actually seemed to get better and better the more they recorded! Unlike some of their contemporaries, who kind of lost their edge when the production got slicker, Pleasure actually picked up more of a beat, and tightened up their act in a way that made for some of the funkiest and most soulful moments of their career. I encourage all bass players to snag diz monsta.. so they can treat themselves to a 400-level university course in bass playing.
Check out "Glide (Radio Cut)" for some warm vibes in the wintertime babbbbbbBbbYyyY!

Mr. Jamaica Funk

Here's a (Q)-Tip .... Listen to more of Queens own Tom Browne baby!

Now I know a lot of record labels are gonna come atcha with the fiery funk but a couple notes from a jew himself (me) - Rosen and Grusin now how to spin a dreidle, and spin a funky pie on their GRP label which Browne dominated on his 1979 release, "Browne Sugar." MmmMmM and how sweet that sugary pie is with horn stabs being held up under an army of slaps! Listen to that pre-chorus key change and how the slap bass smacks you right back onto the dance floor just when you think you're about to climax. Alright enough talking more listening.... link it baby!

Go take some of grandma's bills you got in the card and buy yourself a nice fat stack of used, dusty, bassy, recordings and have a safe and happy hanukah my friends. I'd Rather Be With You!

Ahhhh, it's Bootsy baby!!!!  The one and only William "Bootsy" Collins of James Brown and P-Funk fame.  This track is off of his debut solo album titled "Stretchin' Out in Bootsy's Rubber Band" which was released April 1976. This song, "I'd Rather Be With You" is dumb dangerous!! It's mad THICK!!  Gotta check it out...  Bootsy really smacks that bass up.  He's very well known for his bass technique.  As is audible in this track, the bass is really up front in the mix and drives the song.  Also that juicy sound is produced by using envelope filters, which works like a wah-wah effect without using your foot to rock a pedal.  And most importantly, Bootsy is well known for his very strong SLAP technique.  If you dig this check out anything by Parliament, Funkadelic, George Clinton etc. etc. etc.

Have you been to wonderland??

Ok, here it is. FIRST POST!!!!!

Obviously, we gotta start out things right... or should I say Wright!?!?!?!?!

Thats right people, Bernard Wright!

There's some really nice slappy funky bass all over his album, Nard.
Released in 1981 on GRP Records 'Nard features the glorious hit, "Haboglabotribin'"
5 seconds into the song there is the fattest, healthiest dose of slap EVER!!
It's a great POP! with a dramatic bend in it to bring in the whole band. Then, throughout the verse, there are perfect little accents added of fantastic bop's and gap's and funky funkiness.
And who could forget the funky slap figure to bring in the bridge!! Right at 1:41, my life changed forEVER...

~Scotty
Ayo new friends and foes - just want to add that bassist Marcus Miller went to Queens college and met Sir Nard in the Q-tip which is where they get those city funk lines from - listening to the subway yall!
Have fun with this one!
